All - Stars

The All-Star program is an elective and optional program that the Region participates in at the Area 11L (Southern Orange Co) level during seasons that the Area chooses to offer it. The All-Star program is currently not active in Area 11L in order to accomodate more Spring soccer and tournament play.

In years that the Area does participate, the following guidelines are used:

The Area 11L All-Stars tournament takes place after the Fall season is over during the first two or three weekends of January (after school recommences). The tournament is for U10, U12, and U14 players that excelled during the fall season. All-Star teams usually play a minimum of three or four games in tournament pool play. Teams that advance out of their pool then play in single elimination comprising of possible quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final games. All-Star teams may begin practice on December 15.

How are players selected? All coaches from the fall season nominate a number of their players. Players that are nominated should be those that have had the largest impact on the overall game, defensively as well as offensively. Generally, a coach will (should) nominate about four players, of which both defensively minded and offensively minded players should be included. The All-Star coach will then select the All-Star team from these nomination to create the most well balanced team possible. A minimum of one player from each fall-season team is selected to the All-Star team (sometimes more depending on the number of teams in the division). In some divisions there may be more than one All-Star team in which case one player is selected from each team for each All-Star team to be formed. The rest of the players that form the All-Star team is up to the All-Star coach.

Advice to Fall-Season Coaches: Many good players are overlooked during to fall season or nominated but not selected. Unfortunately, only a certain number of players can be accepted to the All-Star teams. To avoid hurt feelings and misunderstanding, it is advised that you keep your nominations confidential and share them only with the All-Star coach.

How is the All-Star Coach selected: The All-Star coach is then appointed by the AYSO Region 86 Board of Directors based on merit, certifaction level, experience. Selection of the coach is highly influenced by the applicant's current and past service to the AYSO program in Laguna Beach.
